Part of a series on universal service, 1995 Calculated Revenues was
produced in response to a request from regulatory commissioners to
facilitate a nationwide dialog among federal regulators, state regulators,
and the telecommunications industry on options for support to rural areas
for telephone service (universal service). This paper provides
industry revenues for the companies that would contribute to a new
universal service fund (USF). 1995 Calculated Revenues models
the result of various options and allows state-by-state comparisons.
These results show, for each state: (1) how much is paid into this fund;
(2) who, on balance pays into, or receives from, this fund; and (3) the
impact of varying the percent paid by interstate and by intrastate
companies/customers.
